Sustainable Practices

Finca Nueva Armenia follows a production model that conserves natural resources, reduces its carbon footprint, and is self-sufficient. This ensures long-term profitability without compromising the environment.

The farm is designed to maintain a balance between coffee cultivation and resilient production, which minimises its reliance on outside contribution. Its core practices of regenerative agriculture help to regenerate soil fertility and preserve biodiversity.

Projects

One of the farm’s most innovative projects is the production of coffee husk briquettes. It transforms a byproduct of the coffee industry into a zero-carbon energy source. This waste-to-value model allows the farm to close the production loop and generate value for both the community and the environment.

In addition, the farm has innovated its post-harvest processes by applying techniques such as controlled fermentation and diverse coffee processing methods. These practices elevate its quality potential, garnering national acclaim.

For the past four years, the farm has eliminated the use of gas-powered dryers by installing solar dryers, which also reduces its carbon footprint.

Awards

Finca Nueva Armenia has gained national recognition in Guatemalan specialty coffee competitions for its processing methods and prominent female leadership.

In addition to its sustainable practices, Finca Nueva Armenia has been innovating in post-harvest processing since 2020. It has developed specialty coffee microlots using controlled fermentations, including exotic washed, honey, and natural processes.

This has earned it national recognition in competitions like Flores del CafΓ©, where it placed 5th in 2023 with a natural coffee processed through controlled fermentation. In the 2024 edition, it placed 4th with a honey process featuring lactic fermentation.
